Mood: they don't really care about us

I went to Busan with Megan and Nigel this weekend. It was pretty awesome. I'll write up a post about it later, but for now I want to talk about something completely unrelated: high school.

I was invited to a Facebook group, "Maine West High School-Class of 2005." Apparently a 5 year reunion is in the works. Um, what? First of all, I hadn't even realized it's been almost five years since I graduated from high school. That's a long time.

Second of all, I would never go to a 5 year reunion. What's the point? I don't associate with anyone from high school anymore, except on LJ, and I didn't particularly like high school while I was there. Plus, not enough has happened in my life since high school to warrant going.

This is what I've done since I graduated from high school: lost weight, came out, graduated from college, moved to another country, got a job. That's- well, actually, that's a lot, especially compared to some of the people I knew back then. But it doesn't seem like that much, you know?

Oh well, it doesn't matter anyways. I'm not going back home just to go to a reunion. Waste of time.

hahahaha I'M SORRY I DIDN'T MEAN IT!!!! I mentioned this to my mom and she was like, "Oh my god, my baby graduated from high school FIVE YEARS AGO."

I turn 23 this month... but I don't feel old or young, really. Last year, when I was turning 22, I was depressed through most of March because 22 seemed so old - you know, 21 is the last big birthday until you hit 30, 40, 50, etc. Sigh.

*sigh* Fine...I forgive you. :P

And I dunno, I think 25 is still kind of a milestone. You can run for public office at 25. *nods*

hah, thanks :P

ooh, you're right - I forgot. 25 is also a milestone since you can start renting cars at that age!

Adam, my dear...you're still not helping. Renting cars isn't very exciting.

Actually, aside from feeling old, I'm actually rather excited to turn 25. I honest to god hate the stigma that comes with being "in my early twenties" because everyone still treats me like I'm a dumb kid. I feel like I'm way older than I am sometimes, which is weird. Maybe it's because a lot of my good friends are in their thirties.

Well damn if that doesn't sound self important. Ugh.

No, I get it... at 22 I'm the youngest person teaching at my school, and I get a loooot of flack for it. Mostly it's joking (Korean culture is very age-based, thanks to Confucianism), so I'm the one always sent on beer runs or whatever. But sometimes, well, whatever. Although it's not like my friends are much older than me - the oldest person in my "group" just turned 28. Not exactly old...

I'm glad - sometimes people stare at me like I've two heads when I say stuff like that. It sucks being the youngest in a group.
