Mood: they don't really care about us

I went to Busan with Megan and Nigel this weekend. It was pretty awesome. I'll write up a post about it later, but for now I want to talk about something completely unrelated: high school.

I was invited to a Facebook group, "Maine West High School-Class of 2005." Apparently a 5 year reunion is in the works. Um, what? First of all, I hadn't even realized it's been almost five years since I graduated from high school. That's a long time.

Second of all, I would never go to a 5 year reunion. What's the point? I don't associate with anyone from high school anymore, except on LJ, and I didn't particularly like high school while I was there. Plus, not enough has happened in my life since high school to warrant going.

This is what I've done since I graduated from high school: lost weight, came out, graduated from college, moved to another country, got a job. That's- well, actually, that's a lot, especially compared to some of the people I knew back then. But it doesn't seem like that much, you know?

Oh well, it doesn't matter anyways. I'm not going back home just to go to a reunion. Waste of time.

that's actually a lot of accomplishments! in the 4 years i've had since high school all i can say for myself is that i've gotten an associate's degree and a few minimum wage jobs. I really enjoyed high school, but a 5 year reunion is really lame. I still hang out with a lot of people that i knew in high school anyway so a 5 year seems pointless since we still have them at the bowling alley. haha.

it is a lot of accomplishments, but it just doesn't feel like it, you know? A 5 year reunion is dumb - you're simply not separated enough from high school for anyone to be any different. I could see a 10 year, 20, 25, 30, etc being more worthwhile - things will REALLY have changed in that time. hah, I've only hung out with a couple high school friends since my sophomore year of college, and even that was one time. kind of sad really.

yeah, I think even a ten year may be too much like high school, but I'll probably still go (if I have the opportunity) just for curiosity's sake. Probably by the 20 year reunion everyone will start acting their age... but maybe not.
