More background check stupidity

Mood: dull
Music: Jace Everett - That's The Kind Of Love I'm In

Another Background Check entry (#3 of 9191), but short and sweet this time:

Brought my background check to a currency exchange today, where I got it signed by a notary public. It cost $1. I also packaged it up to be apostilled. It'll be mailed tomorrow and I can forget about it until the Secretary of State mails it back to me.

Half the reason I've started blogging about the application/preparation process is because I obsessively research everything, and this process is ignored by most of the blogs I've been reading. So, in an attempt to make this blog useful to any readers out there: you get your documents notarized by a notary public. You can find them at currency exchanges, FedEx Kinko's, and various other locations. Just look in a telephone book.

After you get your documents notarized, you need to get them apostilled. An apostille is a certificate which verifies the seal and signature of the person who authenticated the document. In this situation, that would be a notary public. An apostille validates documents in every country apostilles are accepted. For more information on apostilles, go to ApostilleInfo.com.

To get an apostille in Illinois, you must send your notarized document, a $2.00 fee, a written request, the identity of the country to which the document is to be sent, and a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Office of the Secretary of State
Index Department, Notaries Public Division
111 E. Monroe St.
Springfield, IL 62756

Here is the request letter I sent:
Enclosed is a notarized criminal background check for the purpose of obtaining a visa to work in South Korea. It will be sent to South Korea. In order for this document to be accepted, it needs to be apostilled.

Also enclosed is the $2.00 fee for the apostille and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Thanks,
[your name here]

It should return in a few weeks. Or you can drop it off in person and be in and out in just a half hour or so. And there you have it.

In other news, I am still lonely and bored. I also read Charlaine Harris's book Dead and Gone this afternoon. It was okay. Oh, and on that note, Jace Everett, who sang the opening song to the HBO TV show TrueBlood, is ridiculously amazing. Just throwing that out there.

But yeah, this summer is going to be dull. At least I have this visa nonsense to fill up my time! Yay?

Yeah, I've been reading them all since the first one first came out. (And so has my mother, haha.) I'm a big fan of the books... and the few episodes of the tv show that I've seen. How do you like the books? Have you seen the tv show?

I like the books, I just want her to be with Eric!!! I saw that the next one will be coming out in October/September which surprised me.

I also like the TV show. The whole first season was basically based on the first book and the first chapter of the second (with a few things changed up). I am looking forward to the new season starting next month.

Ugh, I really don't like Eric - he's just too heavy-handed for my tastes. I really liked Alcide and Quinn though... even Bill was better than Eric. Sigh. The new book comes out after I'll (hopefully) be in South Korea... oh well. I'll just have to wait until I'm back in the US to get it. :P

I watched the first six episodes of the first season, and I LOVED it - everything was exactly how I pictured it. If I ever find the DVD set on sale, I'll definitely watch the rest. Eventually...

Just because I'm curious: do you have Facebook?
