Mood: the wasteland guides them
Music: Klaxons - Atlantis to Interzone

So tired. The guy upstairs woke me from my pre-work nap this evening and in the middle of last night. Plus I work nights and I have an early class every other day and I'm probably going to pass out, like, right now. Christ.

The US has a new president, which is good (good riddance, Bush), but I really hope Obama doesn't totally fuck things up. I don't think he will, but who knows what'll happen in the next four years? (Also, if everyone could stop treating Obama like he's the second coming, that'd be great. It's getting a little old. And creepy.)

Classes are okay. Interesting. Lots of reading. Somehow I'm still staying on top of everything - and I'm ahead of the game with my translation. Dr. J OKed my goal to finish the translation by midterms, so that means I'll have the second half of the semester free to piss around and write papers for my other classes and shit.

OH GOD I NEED TO APPLY TO SHIT FOR AFTER I GRADUATE. I'm getting to the point where I'm running out of options. Why do I always do this to myself? What I really need is a ridiculously rich Russian SO. Then again, I think I'd be a pretty shitty piece of arm candy or trophy husband, so maybe not.

It's funny you say people think Obama is the second coming. I'm still cumming over Obama being our president.

...

I think I'm going to go to bed now. And, uh, change my shorts.

I'm getting pretty annoyed with all the hype over Obama. Like I was stoked for a bit, but HELLO, he's just a senator from Chicago. Not Jesus, Not the anti-christ. Everyone relax, we have a "colored" president, the world isn't going to fall apart, and there's not going to be "peace on Earth".

I know, right? One thing that annoys me is that I saw him give a speech at a rally a few years ago - during the last presidential elections and after his first big speech at the DNC - and his speech-giving skills were not so hot. Even then everyone But whatever.

Something else that bothers me is that everyone keeps going ON and ON about how we FINALLY have a black president, like it's a big surprise or something. Frankly, I'm surprised that people find it so surprising. It's like... is every little thing he does going to be "historic," just because he's black? Does his skin color really matter so much? Apparently so. Ugh.

Haha the whole first black president thing realllly irks me. Like my dad will not even give the man a chance.... because he's black and young. If he was an old white man my dad would be allll over it! I guess in a way it's good we get the whole mess over with, let everyone grow up and realize a black president is just a president and move on with their lives.
He's black, he's not going to rape your children, he's not going to change the fact that some white people hate black people. I even kind of felt bad for George Bush at the inauguration when he wasn't applauded for. They really made a big freaking deal over this man.
I love Obama, but not because he's black and not because he's sexy and not because he's going to save the world and make everything wonderful and no one's ever going to starve again.

GAH.

/end rant.

I dunno, I don't really have any sympathy for Bush. I think he was a terrible president, and I reallly don't respect him at all, whatsoever. I just want people to be realistic about Obama. Yeah, he's black, but he's still an male upper-class law school graduate, so what is really so different about him from (many, if not most) of the presidents we've had in the past? I mean, unless he saves us from the zombie invasion from planet x, he's really no different from any other president.

So a couple days ago your facebook profile status was "when my grandchildren ask where I was, I'll say 'I HAD CLASS'" (or something along those lines). When I saw it, I laughed SO HARD.

Then I realized that you meant you actually, y'know, were talking about school. Not superiority. But WHATEVER. (Just thought I'd share!)

I think half the reason I thought of it was because it seemed like the sort of thing you'd say. So. ;)

I can sort of understand the Obama freaks, tho - I was completely stoked when we got our first woman and openly gay-positive president (she still holds the office), and over the years I've seen what difference she has made.
And considering that you had there the most uspeakable fucking oaf for bloody eight years, during which time he basically managed to run the entire freaking world down the plumbing, I do see some cause for celebration :P I understand it's annoying, but it'll get over pretty soon anyway.

Hafta say, tho, he isn't making a too shabby start... Goodbye Global Gag Rule! :)

I really like what Obama is doing (after, what, 5 days in office?), and what he stands for (wait for it... change!), but I've never understood the hero-/celebrity-worship people have for, well, anyone. Oh well. I'll just support Obama and mock the creepy supporters behind their backs. ;)

(Oh, and Bush couldn't be out of office soon enough. I swear, every time I talked politics with my mother she would go ON and ON about how much she hated Bush. Such a relief things have changed, hahaha.)
