already dead

How did I get to accident and emergency?

I'm still alive. Mostly.

Quick stats about 2007: I wrote approximately 140 pages last semester. That, plus the pages I wrote spring semester and all of the extracurricular writing I did, adds up to about 300 pages. I read 150 books, or ~55,000 pages. That's a lot. A shitload, in fact.

The new semester began today. I'm kind of iffy about the semester already. Last week I dropped Survey of Russian Literature II and picked up French for International Business Communication (which will henceforth be referred to as "Business" or "French for Business"). Today I had Russian at 9:30; we found out about how we did on last semester's final (poorly) and I discovered that I received 88% in the class. That was sad. Then I followed Kara and Amanda around for an hour. Then I had JINS. It's Portrayals of Women: Victorian England & the Pre-Raphaelites. I have a couple friends in the class, so that's pretty awesome. Then I had French for Business, which looks like it will be ridiculously easy. I also have a couple friends in that class. Tomorrow I have Advanced French Phonology and Grammar and Modern Russian Novel.

One of the benefits of this semester is that my classes aren't spread out like they were last semester. I mean, I had class from 9:30 to 4:30, and that was pretty awful. This semester I have class from 9:30 to 1:30 (12-3 on Tuesday/Thursdays). I love being done so early in the day!

I've been doing quite a bit of writing as of late. My novel is on a brief hiatus, primarily because I've lost my outline and need to scrounge together a new one (or find the old one). However, I've been working on several short stories. I've never actually written a short story before, just 2-5 page stories I refer to as "vignettes," so this is new territory for me. It will be fascinating to see how this experiment turns out. I will be needing an editor soon, so if anyone wants to help... well, talk to me.
