Mood: distressed

So I've had this weird, well, thing on my face for a couple months. I don't know how better to describe it. It's located above my lip (where my mustache grows in), started in April as a zit, and then... I shaved it.

Basically, it just got worse since then. Shaving was awful, and I got to the point where I was feeling incredibly self-conscious about it. I realized yesterday that I was looking at photos on Instagram and thinking, "God, they all have nice, clear faces, I wish I did too." I was originally going to wait until the end of the semester to take care of it, but I decided to forgo studying today (not like it was a huge struggle to be honest) and get it checked out this morning.

I went to the dermatologist a couple blocks from my apartment. Last time I went there he recommended I get the cyst on my back removed at a surgeon. Anyways, the office opened at 9:30, I showed up at 9:32, and there was already a line. I ended up waiting 45 minutes to see the doctor. He told me it was a wart, of all things. "Can you fix it?" I asked.

"Yes," he said.

So I got some anesthetic put on it, sat in the waiting room awkwardly for another 20 minutes or so (a tweet I wrote while waiting: "When the most attractive man ever enters the room, and you're sitting there with a giant fucking tissue on your face"), and went in to get it lasered off.

It actually hurt a surprisingly large amount. I was surprised by that. It felt like constant stinging pain, then the scent of burning hair and skin, then more stinging pain. That being said, it was over pretty fast and only 50 bucks. I have to go back tomorrow to get it checked out.

Basically, I have two issues at the moment. The first is: good god the bandage they put over it looks fucking RIDICULOUS. I look like a goddamn clown. I left the dermatologist's office and walked straight into a pharmacy to buy a mask (which, for the uninitiated, is an acceptable fashion accessory in Korea - wonderful for those bad skin days).

The second: I have to do a long run tomorrow morning but I was told not to get water on it. Sweat is water... I don't know what to do to be honest. I could very well just put off my run until Sunday, but I'd much rather get it over with tomorrow. I'd prefer not to get it infected, but maybe it would be okay, since it'll be almost 24 hours since I had the treatment done? I dunno.

I also have a third issue, which isn't much of an issue. I need to eat dinner with my class tonight, but I kind of want to come up with an excuse to get myself out of it. The professor is quite old-fashioned Korean, so she may not think too highly of me not going to dinner, but if I phrase it as, "I need to go to the hospital," she'll probably be okay with it. I'd prefer not to tempt the fate gods by saying that, but... well... it may be a necessity. I dunno. I'll contemplate matters.
