report cards / Chicago / winter camp fail

Okay, it's been a while since I last posted. Nothing really exciting has occurred, although I finished writing report cards on Thursday (a week early!) and had a date that evolved into a total of three meetings now. I also had to teach for an hour yesterday - it was a Science festival at the school. Not a big deal.

I decided to go back to Chicago for my two week winter vacation. I was originally planning on going to Finland and Estonia, but then I realized that I haven't been with my parents for Christmas since 2008. My parents seem pretty stoked, so I think I made the right decision. The fact that my school is paying for 100% of the trip is a total bonus (!).

After vacation I'll be teaching a winter camp at my school. I came up with the curriculum for a drama class, targeted primarily toward 3rd through 6th graders. Then they sent out the schedule: we'll be teaching grades 1 and 2, and our homeroom is the lowest level of them all. Awesome. Considering how my initial plan was to have the students write, memorize, and produce their own plays, this is probably not going to work. I think the new plan is to introduce them to different genres using video clips and then... try to have them make their own? Or just give them a script have try to get them to memorize it? I foresee this as being a nightmare. On the other hand, it's better than the winter camp at my old school. Yay.
