My Father + I am giddy about Thailand

Mood: annoyed./delighted

Talking to my father is like pulling teeth. For fuck's sake.

Do not save me the energy drinks that have been sitting at the back of the fridge for the last god knows how many months. Do not save that trip to Upper Michigan until I get home. Do not mail me anything (although I do appreciate the thought). I am not going to come home for the forseeable future. There is nothing for me in the US. I have told you this time and time again but it's not going through your thick head. I AM NOT COMING HOME. That is not home anymore. (You could also put the money you'd be spending on sending a package to me into my bank account so I can pay off my loans a little quicker. That'd be nice.)

Oh, and since I've deliberately avoided telling you: I'm going to Thailand on vacation. Yes, Thailand. Where a Civil War will probably break out and I'm probably going to die. I haven't told you yet because you're going to be an asshole about any location I visit, and Thailand is probably a little worse than most places. The man will probably shit a brick the second I tell him I'm going to China ("They have a BILLION man army!") or India ("WATCH OUT FOR THE TERRORISTS!!!"). I appreciate the fact that someone cares, but you, my dear father, are a schmuck. And I mean that in the nicest of ways.

In other news, 2 more work days and then Thailand!!!

I want to visit temples and spend time on the beach and contemplate riding an elephant and visit a gay bar and check out some non-Korean Buddhas and buy a bunch of tacky souvenirs for my mom and look at the ladyboys (and muse about how interesting the role of sexuality in a non-western and non-Confucian culture is) and look at where the fighting in Bangkok took place and learn how to say "hello" and "thank you" in Thai (and promptly discover how useless such information is when practically everyone speaks English) and ride in a tut-tut and attempt to figure out the exchange rate in my head before giving up and just shoving my money at the venders and hoping they don't rip me off and eat street food and and and I'm really excited you guys!!! It's like I'm living my dream or some shit. HOORAY BEING AN ADULT WOOHOO

Are you going to Thailand on vacation? It's really wonderful!
I've visited Thailand last year (in April) and it was the greatest trip of my life!
Thailand is often called the "land of smiles" and indeed people in Thailand are so friendly. Many Thai dishes are very, very hot but I like spicy food!
I’ve been to Pattaya. There are many wonderful places in Pattaya: the Tropical Garden Nong Nooch, Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Sanctuary of Truth.
Where do you go in Thailand? Pattaya? Phuket?

You've been to Thailand? Awesome! I like spicy food too, and I've loved all the Thai food I've tried, so I suspect this will be an excellent gastronomical trip!

I will be going to Phuket and Bangkok. It should be an excellent trip-- I'm looking forward to visiting the beach, checking out temples, and so on. It's going to be amazing :)

You're so cute. :)

P.S. Parents are tricky. Good for you for staying patient with him.
