Mood: achy

Class (classical novel) was canceled today, and for a change the professor actually let us all know before showing up to class and waiting for half an hour! Of course, I now have an extra hour of class on Friday, but that's a mere triviality.

I'd started the day with the best of intentions in mind - that is, study. Work on my final papers. Do something productive.

This is what I've done today: .

I'm ridiculous. I'm probably going to fail out of graduate school.

See, I have this bad habit of being really bad at starting things. But once I start something - a book, a paper, whatever - I am uber-student. I'm on top of everything, working non-stop, etc. And what's more, I actually enjoy studying. I find it enjoyable to piece together different ideas and give reasons/prove why my thoughts are accurate. I just find it difficult to actually get to that point.

I have three term papers this semester.
Classical Novel: comparing the female characters in 이만식의 구운몽 with the female characters in the adaptation/parody 최인훈의 구운몽. (tentative)
Modern Novel: Family and Growth in 오정희의 중국인 거리와 저녁의 게임.
Semiotics: metaphor in 김혜순의 전세계의 쓰레기여 단결하라.

I am not sure as to when any of the papers are due, unfortunately, and there are only 2 weeks left before finals week. Fortunately I've finished almost all reading this semester so all I have left is, well- working on these papers. Easier said than done.

Anyways, different topic. Last weekend I did a long run of 10km (6 miles), which is the longest I've run since June 2010, when I did a 10k in Gwangju with Zandra. I took it easy this time and didn't push myself. This week I'm introducing a fourth day of running. I still have a bit of a fantasy of running a half marathon (21km, or 13.1 miles) in September/October, but the more important thing to me at the moment is taking it easy and not getting injured. On that note, I really need to buy a new pair of running shoes, but that is a struggle in which I am loath to partake.

Saturday, shortly after my long run, I met up with Kay and Nick and we went to a rose festival near 태릉입구역, which is not far at all from where I live now. It was hot, crowded, and the roses weren't particularly nice, so it was a bit disappointing. We walked to HUFS and got pasta at a nice place there, and then went to a coffee shop close to my house for a while. I got a fairly mild sunburn, which was entirely unintentional. I did a whole lot of nothing besides that all weekend, honestly. I was too worn out from that damn run. (Which is why I plan to do my long run on Sundays from now on- I won't lose the entire weekend that way.)

I have a similar problem when it comes to starting things. It's awful :/

It seems you always do well in the end and it certainly sounds like you work hard. I don't imagine Korean literature is easy. good luck!
