Mood: alright

What a busy week. I'll go in order.

Sunday, July 19: TOPIK
I feel as if I did better than I'd expected- much better than expected. I don't necessarily think I got a 5급, but I definitely did better than last time. I'm probably in the high-4급 region.

Tuesday, July 21: Midterms
And then we had midterms. These were originally scheduled for the week before, but people from my program complained since studying for midterms meant there was no time to study for the TOPIK, so it was moved to an even worse date. I also had to do my speaking midterm (a presentation, which was about the changing roles in sexuality in Yun Choi's 하나코는 없다). I spent so much time prepping for my presentation that I didn't actually study for the other sections - which was a deliberate decision, since I figured it was more useful for my graduate degree preparations than anything else. That being said, I did so-so on the grammar/vocab section, great on writing, and great on reading. (But I have no desire to see my scores.)

Wednesday-Saturday, July 22-25: House-hunting in Seoul
There was a "cultural experience" on Wednesday, but I stayed home and chilled. That evening me, Nick, and Kay took the bus to Seoul, and stayed at Alyn's place. Thursday Nick and I went from Cheongnyangri station to HUFS, where we explored the neighborhoods and decided where to search for apartments first. After stopping by HUFS for a bit, we began.

Real Estate Agent #1: Nick and I went here (at Hoegi Station) to look for one rooms for me. They only showed me 4 small apartments and then when I asked if they had anything bigger, they said, "No."

Real Estate Agent #2: Nick, Kay and I went together, but they split us up. My guy was not only extremely good looking but also extremely low-energy, which was unpleasant. We saw about 4 places. One good one, the rest were ok.

Real Estate Agent #3: Nick, Kay, and I went together and they split us up again. My guy showed me two places and really pushed me to sign a contract right then and there. I refused, he got huffy, and then he threatened that the apartment might not be there if I came back later. "That's ok," I told him. I was really furious and frustrated by such a bad experience.

Real Estate Agent #4: I went alone to this one (Nick and Kay went to another one on their own as well). This guy was very nice, showed me 6 places, and all of them were livable.

Then we went back to Sangdo and ate chicken and beer and then went home and passed out.

The next day we separated because Nick and Kay didn't have much luck at Hoegi, but I wanted to keep trying.

Real Estate Agent #5: a nice enough woman, she showed me 3 places and the first two were acceptable.

Then I met up with Bong. We ate lunch and went to...

Real Estate Agent #6: this guy showed us 2 absolute shit apartments. One was really, really, really awful.

Then Alyn came.

Real Estate Agent #7: this was another really nice guy. He showed us 3 really big, really nice apartments. I was tempted by all of them. (And apartment #2 had a gorgeous, muscular guy who works as a magician as the current tenant. I was also tempted by him.)

Then we got Starbucks and I made my decision. We went back to REA#4 and visited my two favorites that he showed me. I chose one of them and scheduled to sign my contract on Saturday morning. Nick and Kay, coincidentally, ended up signing a contract for a place 2.5 minutes away, which they'd seen with their REA#4 as well. That evening we all went to Kyunghee Dae and ate chicken again.

Saturday morning I signed my contract and we all went to Itaewon where we ate Texas-style barbecue, got soaking wet, and then returned to Jeonju.

I start to move into my new apartment on August 14. I'm not sure how it's going to go, but at least this part of the process is over with. And now... time to do Korean-related stuff.

Honestly as far as I know there's nothing much of interest around here, except for Boramae Park. Then again I may just be too unfamiliar with this place. I always go to other places in the city.
